How much life insurance do you need?

A calculator plus the reasoning: years of income needed, debts you carry, education you want to fund, and coverage already in place.

The standard approach: total what your income could support, then subtract existing financial protections. It's approximate by nature—term policies sell in standard increments anyway—and the goal is an amount that keeps your family secure through the years you care about most.

Coverage estimate

$1,765,000

Estimate = (yearly income × number of years) + loans + college − current savings and employer coverage, rounded to $5,000. This is just a starting place, never financial guidance.

Why those inputs

Income years. Most professionals recommend ten to twenty years; how many you pick depends on how long dependents need income support. In Newark, families with young children typically go longer since childcare, rent or mortgages, and school costs all demand money at the same time.

Debts. For most people, the biggest is a house loan. Protection that covers it entirely allows survivors to choose their path without urgent financial pressure.

Education. Set aside roughly one child's school cost per child, in today's money. Adding it now is simpler than buying more coverage later.

What you have. Savings ready to use, plus coverage your job might offer. Job-based coverage ends when employment does, so most people count only part of it toward their total.

Once you know the number you want, enter it into the quote tool and see monthly costs for each carrier across 10 to 30-year terms. Many people buy modestly more than their estimate because monthly costs at younger ages are surprisingly close.
